gRace Morrison
Musician Committee, Board Member
Grace Morrison holds a Master’s degree in French and Italian Literature from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and pursued violin studies to the degree level at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. Her professional career spans Scotland, the United States, Québec, and Ontario, where she taught and developed curriculum, including serving as Chair of the French Immersion Program with the Scarborough Board of Education. During her tenure, she played a key role in introducing French Immersion into senior schools.
For over twenty years, Grace worked independently across Canada and in France (Bretagne and Provence), offering presentations in schools, libraries, and universities. Her talks draw on her diverse expertise and focus on the history of Canada—particularly New France in the 17th century—as well as theatre, music (classical and Baroque violin, and native drum), and the French language. These presentations accompany her books Vignettes d'Histoire du Canada and its English translation, New France.
As a musician, Grace has performed with the North York Symphony Orchestra, a variety of operatic and musical theatre pit orchestras, and the Keltic band Celtique, with whom she toured Ontario, Québec, and the International Exhibition in Vancouver. Notably, the group was invited by the Government of Ontario to perform at the Canadian Pavilion, where they greeted Prime Minister Brian Mulroney with an Irish jig. She currently performs in duos and trios at seniors’ residences on a volunteer basis and has been a member of Orchestra Toronto for seven years.
Grace has also served in leadership roles offstage, including as Commodore of the Bluffers Park Yacht Club and as a Board Member of the Bluffers Park Boating Federation, as well as on various educational boards.
Her pastimes include sailing, golf, and skiing.
